This unique Murano gold glass bead is a slightly flattened sphere shape, measuring 14mm x 16mm. It takes 3 steps to create this type of art beads. First a small amount of crystal molten lampwork glass is wrapped around a copper wire or mandrel, and then rolled in a single layer of pure 24k gold foil hammered very thin. Then the molten core is rolled in irregular shaped bits of colored broken glass called 'pestaccio'. Finally it is covered with a very pale transparent aqua glass, and slightly squashed with a cast iron forming tool to create this unusual shape. The irregular shapes of the pestaccio bits inside the bead reflect light, and insure that no two beads are the same.
